' These sports in which great interest was taken by athletics in all parts of tTe valley and by the Fire Brigades in almost the whole province were held in the Eecrsation JKeserve, Greytown, yesterday, and but for the absolutely wretched weather which prevailed would have been most largely attended. As it was about 500 persons were on the ground, and despite an interruption of an hour at the start owing to the rain, the .various events were got off with commendable promptitude andjwere all well .competed fori The Greytown Brass Band was on the, ground, and supplied the musical portion of the programme,-and Messrs Fabian and Grigg conducted the publican's and refreshraent booth respectively. Tarious otherstalls and games awe well represented, and one anajpll seemed to be doing as much business as could be expected in such gloomy weatlier.
