CORRESPONDENCE.

DONOVAN'S ROAD. TO THE EDITOR OF THE DAILY, Sir.—l enclose a copy of a letter, which the Wairarapa Star declined to print, as it was written in such a badtempered, ill-mannered way. If you think it contains nothiug libellous, I shall be glad if you will print it. •Yours respectfully, Win. B. Matheson. ■ Kopuaranga, Deo, 16,1887.

(Copy;) (to the editor Waiiuiiai'a Stab.) Sir.—l protest against a public, paper taking up, ais i\b.Qut the ' individuals, lifllesis tli'e said paper ia wolUnformed on the subject, Statements in an artioie (re Donovan's Road), published by you last week, prove that either you did not know what you were writing about, or you were deliberately misleading your readers. You said—- " Among those who desired the road to be twisted to a new angle, were the owners of the adjacant paddocks, who naturally had an object in seeing it shunted; off their lands on to Native property."'' I beg to inform, you that wmcl} tl]6 old rqts paaspd, ,fp thosg Qccup.ied /tiy' nja. The petition! signed did m ftsli W tho wad

I can only suppose that you have been soft-hearted enough to believe " that he who howls the loudest deserves the most sympathy." -Ishall be obliged if you will print this in full, so that your readers may know that what you said last week about "'adjacent padlocks" was incorrect, and having proved one statement to be incorreot, I leave" all disinterested, right-think-ing individuals" that you speak of, to judge for themselves what the rest of your article is worth.

Yours respectively, Will B. Matheson, Kopuaranga, Dec 12,1887.
