WAIRARAPA DISTRICT HOSPITAL' BOARD.

The annual statutory meeting of the above Board was held at the County Council Chambers Mastorton yesterday (Wednesday), Present. Messrs M. Caselberg(in the chair), E. S. Gappor, T. .Maokay, it D. Dagg, and-H Braithwaite. The Secretary—Mr C. Higgins—notified the election of the following members North County Council-Messrs T. Mackay, W. H, Beetham, R. D, Dagg, South County Council—W. O. Buchanan, W. Booth, fi. Bunny, Masterton, Borough—M. Caselberg, and E. S.Gapper Greytown Borough—H. Udy, Tho Secretary raised the question as to whether the old Board met before the new Board, and quoted the Act with refere nee to it. The Chairman ruled that the functions of the old Board ceased ■ on the election of the new Board, and it WAS consequently defunct. Mi Caselberg was elected Chairman for the ensuing year, on the motion of Mr Braithwaite, seconded by Mr Dagg. Tho minutes of the last annual meeting were read and confirmed.

A letter was read from the Premier's office refusing to pay the sum of £l2 10s towards the Boards official expenses, and requesting information under what section of the Act the demand was made.

The Secretary explained that he could not find auytking m the act to warrant the claim being made, but had written to the Chairman—Mr R, S, Hawkius—who had advised him to "try and get it" at the same timo expressing an opinion that he " did not think he would get it." An account, accompanied by several letters, was received from Didsbury, Government Printer, for 12s worth of elastic bands, which the Secretary said had been ordcied by Mr Bunny about two years ago, but as he (the Secretary) had not received them lie refused to recognise the claim. It was resolved that Mr Bunny be asked by whose authority the bands were ordered, and >vhat had become of them. The Secretary reported having received the following amounts from the contributing bodies North County Council, £lO 3s Gd • South County, (half claim) Lslss 8d; Masterton Borough, L2 10s sd; Greytown Borough, 14s Bd. It was explained that the South County refused to pay more than hall the amount claimed, as they considered t]iat the Government paid £ for £ towards the expenses of the Board.

The Secretary was instructed to apply to them for the amount duo to the Board, as the Government refuse to recognise any sucli claim. The only amount paid away during the past year was the Secretary'sjsalary for two years viz £lO, which left a credit balance of £8 14s 3d. The liabilities were 12s for advertising in the four Wiirarapa papers, " the first and only advertising dwtie" as the Secretary explained. It was resolved that the amount be paid. Mr Braithwaite, after hearing the financial statement read, enquired if that was all the Board had to meet for. Was there nothing to do beyond disbursing the sum of L 25 ? The Chairman pointed out that sinco the Board had been in existence they had had 110 claims made upon them, consequently they nothing to deal with beyond the working epenses of the Board. March 31st to prevent any unnecessary delay. The Secretary was instructed to procure the neccessary articles for carrying on his official duties, such as copying press, minute book, letter book Ac, " Til? meoting then adjonrjiod. '
