Mammon v. Carterton.

Tub first match of the season between the abore'Clabs was played on Saturday last, at Carterton, resulting in a win for tho home team by 41 runs on the Ist innings, Neither Club was represented by its best team, several of the selected being 1 unable to play, The match was played on the Pastoral Show Ground, a matting pitch being used, the fielding ground being very very rough, Mastorton went first to the wickets and succeeded in compiling 64 runs, Jackson, Pownall, and Iggulden alone getting into double figures. Bethune and Beechy bowled well for Carterton,the latter cleanbowlingseven men. Carterton in their first innings put together 115 runs Leeks with 42 being top scorer, extras coming next with 18, Beechy and Connell being the only other double figures. Perry and Pownall each took four wickets, the latter bowling very ' effectively, ■ his analysis showing 74 balls, 5 maidens, 18 runs, 4 wickets. Masterfon went in for their second innings and when the stumps were drawn had run up 65 runs for 6 wickets, Perry (not out) 23, andlggulden 21 being the principal contributors. The fielding of the winners was vastly superior to that of the losers, in fact the defeat of Masterton can justly be attributed to their bad form in the field, Tbe following are the full scores ;
