,C. G. Beckett v G. W. Deller, an assault case, Mr Sandilands for plaintiff, Mr Beard for defendant,

C. (J, Beckett bomg sworn deposed that on the 13fch October inst., he was comi'.i" from the Council Chambers with Mr' Wolters, when he met the defendant in company with A. J. Armstrong. On coming up defendant struck witness a violent blow and knocked him down, and then lifted liis head and struck him in the face. He could not mako out exactly what defendant said at the time, but believed it had some reference to a concort and tho election. Ho had been confined to his house in consequence of the assault.

A. J. Armstrong (draper) stated that he l'omembered the occurrence as stated by the plaintiff, and did what he could to prevent the assault. The plaintiffofferod to apologise if the defendant would let him go. Thoro was no particular challenge to fight, fl. H, Woltors gavo corroborative evidence. When he saw plaintiff get up from the ground he diet not think he was much hurt, and did not consider the injury would confine him to his house. When ho was down, pkvntiff said, "If I;have wronged you I will apologise." Mr Beard, in addressing the Court, stated that ho did not intend to call evidence as he could not dispute the assault, ' Defendant was fined GOs and costs, and bound over to keep tho peace for three months, himself in L2O and two sureties of LlO each.

Hannah Vickerstaff v Josoph Burgess, an affiliation case. Mr Sandilands for complainant, and Mr Pownall for dofeiidant. Defendant was ordered to pay 7s a week till the child became of the age of 14 years, and all other expences in connection with tho case.

G. Meikleson v J. Beck, claim for L 3 13s 4d for posts sold and delivered. Mr Skipper for Plaintiff. Judgment for defendant.

J. Neikon v H. Conradsen, Mr Beard for plaintiff. Defendant did not appear. Judgment for amount claimed L 8 Is lOd and costs. ".. .

' J. Watson v James Driscoll, claim for LlO 2s Id for erecting a fence. Mr Beard for plaintiff, Mr Bunny for defendant. The case was adjourned till the next Court day.
