Opal was at Tonga on the )2th iust.; but the object of her visit was not known. She was supposed to be waiting for orders expected to arrive from Sydney. ■By the s.s. Lubeck the German squadron was at Samoa when the Maile left about a fortnight ago, and have no sign of moving.,. Tamasese is still in power, aud Malietoa still " wanted" by the Germans, but oould not be discovered. Things- generally are in a very. unsettled and "unsatisfactory state. ' ■ ■ . • ■ The German Commodore issued a proclamation notifying that all who would not join the Tamasese party prior to tho 13th September would be considered rebels, and on that date a large meeting was held at Mulinau Point. The meeting was said by Germans to have been convened by Tamaseso, and at this meeting they called upon all to sign allegiance to that chief, recognising him as sole ruler, in tho place of Maliotoa. A great many of the Natives did so, but it is said they had no choice, and a great many did not attend tho meeting. Five German war vessels had parties out daily, making a search both inland and along the coast for the deposed King Malietoa, but up to the time of theMaile's departure had been unsuccessful.
