Qljeen Street, Masterton, presented 'quite a gay appearance last evening, whettithe several Millineryand Drapery establishments were . decked out and illuminated, for the purpose of displaying the Spring and summer fashions, and goods, Crowds of admirers, prin-
cipally. of the fair sex. blocked the: footpaths in froiit of 'the', promises of Messrs M, Caselbf-rg and Co,. L, J. These large, premises ; were thrown open, bo that the spectators on the outside, were ab|e to have an lmiuterruptod Vview of the interior, which was so arrauged that thevasfc pretuisoßliad tlie appcarauoo of a lovely 'panorama, the floor" boios •covered with hats and ; ' bonnets of all fashions, intersected with ribbons feathers, and bright' colotod ladies' ornaments, The show was without doubt tho best ever witnessed in the Wairarapa, and would have done credit to a Kegeeb Street House. On every hand something bright met the eye, 411 the new colore, comprising ■the " Gobelin," which embraces a great variety of shades, from delicate Bus'siau grey to dark reseda, from pale blue,grey to deepest gendarme j also the uew " Solitaire," from biscuit to rich g'oldou brown, fawn, uiode, heliotrope, gr.is .bleu, marine, Bordeaux, io, The ribbons were mauy and various, including some novelties in designs. There "aere also plumes, Aigrettes, Pignets, Mounts, Laces in Spanish, Oriental, Jubilee, Torchon and Maltese, We noticed a beautiful costume, form ; ing . a,.centrepiece, of a handsomely, embroidered-. ■ Tussone,. which was greatly' admired by. the numerous spectators, who sesrned fascinated by thegorgeous display before tliem. In the Clothing Depattinent the display wa§. equally effective, everything from the ilopr (which was also cbvered). ; .'.to the ceiling, having a most attractive appearance. There was . a splendid assortment. of ready-made • olotbing,from the best New Zealand Tweeds, the Wellington, Petone Tweeds being in prominance,. also " choice, patfefas' from' the Mosgie],Oamaru, and Kaiapoi Mills; new'straw hats, b'raws; &c, r We"' were - shawn .of 1 geutlemeuV, hard felt hats manufactured by 'th'e firm, itavarjety pi colors;', consisting of greys,' briwns and blacks, and which, irom. their ance should command, a ready salt l .
