MR HOGG AT OPAKI.
An Opaki correspondent sends the following a 6 some of the questions and replies at Mr Hogg's meoting 'at the Opald Bchoolhouse oil Wednesday evening:
Do you think that Mr Beetham was justified in getting the Opald fanner compensated for the loss of Ms stacks by sparks from the railway enginei? Reply: I think - that Mr Beetham was quite justified in getting compensation when the Government were satisfied that the olaim was a just one, _' Do you think that Mr Beetham was justified in making the enquires lie did about the reported letting of the sleepers for the Wi Waka contract to the Danevii'ke mills ? Reply : I think Mr Beetham was quite right in making the enquiry on behalf of the constituency, but what I object to was Mr Beetham rushing into print with it; this, and the extention of the Telegraph communication to Mauriceville made it appear to me that it was only done to gain support.
Do not you think that the travelling expenses of the present Ministry excessive. Tliey have been called liberals, don't you think they have been very liberal to themselves ?
Eeply: —There is no doubt but they have been extravagant in their travel-, ling expenses, Here Mr Hogg quoted figures similar to what appeared a short time ago in the Daily as to the cost to the country of Sir' R, Stout, Mr Ballance and the Minister of Public Works.
Do you think the purchase of the district railways and the Charitable Aid Bill a creditable transaceion ?
Reply The district railway were constructed by the Atkinson Ministry and were left as a bad legacy to the Stout-Yogel Government. .Mr 'Hogg made no reply in reference to the Charitable Aid Bill.
