Both.places are completely gutted, .and"very little of the. contents saved. Had it not been fofßodger i Barlesmah's. brick, office the. whole block would have fared badly; but the brick' acted as a. barrier. The night was very culm,-as-is--usually the case in Blenheim. The fire Brigade had two engines at work, Mr Andrews svjis insured for £ 100 on his stock, and |250 on the building, it is believed in the National, . Holmes ts Bell's insurances have not yet been ascertained, but-they will run into some thousands. Later. Further particulars of tho firo show that the.Brigade prevented the fira spreading on the east side to tiie Marlborough .Hotel, which' was .much scorjhed, as were also one or ; two build' ings.on the north side of Higb : street. Lichfield's sample rooms in Weymanstreet'were in great dange/, aud with difficulty saved, Had thefire obtained a hold here,the wholeof this.splendid, bldck of buildings,"including the.' Bank, of New Zealand, aud the Masonic hotel would liave. stood a ppor-show. Very little of Holmes and.Bell's largo stook. was saved.
