London, September 9. Mi- W, O'Brien having failed to appear to-day at Mitchelltown, County Cork, where he was summoned undi-r the Crimes Act. to answer a charge of inciting tenants to resist the law, a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Upon the proceedings of the Court terminating, a meeting of Nationalists was held at Mitchelltown, at which an official reporter, under police protection, was present, Several attempts were made by the crowd to assault the reporter, but were repulsed by the police; but in the scuffle (list took place a number of constables were. seriously 1 injured, and they were compelled to fke at.the, mob. | September 10.
In connection with O'Brien's dispute, 3000 people assembled in the centre of •Jlitchelltowu, and among these Were Messrs Labouchere and Condon, as well as several other members of the House of Commons, A dozen of police were officially escorting a reporter, and' being hustled, Btrongly resisted interference, The police were, reinforced', and iu their attempts to arrest the ringleaders, the crowd furiously resisted, and bludgeons and stones were used, seriously .injuring many, The police were driven into the barracks, tho crowd stoning and surrounding the building, Subsequently the police sallied forth, and fired into the mob, killing two and wounding four. The military then dispersed the crowd.
During tho riot, the wounded police crawled into the gutters,' where they were kicked, stoned, and stabbed, Tho Times Bays the blood of the victims rests on O'Brien, Labouchere, and the Radicals engaged in the demonstration The Pall Mall Gazette urges Mr Gladstone to visit Ireland, and answer the bloody challenge, • September 12.
O'Brien, addressing his sympathisers after his arrest, says that if the people would emulate the spirit of the Irish at Mitchelltown, Ireland would soon be delivered from the English thrall. Davitt denounces the butchery of the police. Sir Kedvers Duller Ims resigned his commission in Ireland.
