TuK Customs Duties for August ■amounted to £121,079 as against £108,541 for the same month laßt year, aud £96,712 for July this yoar. Thoadvauce is attributed partly to the importation of spring goods by the drapers; and partly to tho reactiou from .the-.depression, of previous mouiin* The returns from tho'principal ports were Auckland, £26,927; Wellington, £19,988 ; Christchurcb, £21,633 ; Dunedin, £30,549. Tho beer duty.for August was J83.729, alsoau advauce on previous months. In August last year it was £3,472, aud in July last £3,454. Tho amounts for tho principal towns woro Auckland, £801; Wellington, £529 ; Obristcburcu, £767; Dunedin, £695.
