(To the Editor.) Sir,—l whs very much surprised by the absence of a reporter from your paper at Mr Hawkins' meeting on Friday evening. I see no satisfactory reason for the omission in your paper of Saturday. Will you kindly inform your readers why it was so ] Whilst on the subject of Mr Hawkins.can you inform the electors of Masterton if Mr Hawkins really intends to contest the approaching election 1 It appears to me doubtful. I, with many others, would like to know. By finding a corner in your widely-circulated journal for the above you will oblige

[The Wairarapa Daily lias been slandered and insulted by Mr Haw< kins' Committee, We have writteu to Mr Meredith, its Chairman, for an investigation into what appears to have been a piece of rauk dishonesty on the part of some agent of his Committee. If the inquiry we ■ demand is not granted, we shall consider ourselves at liberty to give the public the plain facts of a very reprehensible transaction, Ed. W.H|
