MEETING AT PAPAWAI.

The natives of Papawai met in goodly numbers yesterday to hear the views of the Several candidates now before the ; electors for the districts of Wairarapa and Masterton. Messrs Bunny, Buohananjand Beetham attended, and addressed the large gathering present. Messrs ,Bunny ,and' Beetham spoke before the Maorios'haddinod, but Mr Buohanan deferred liis speech till after tlieytadtaken their food. Mr John Manihera occupied the chair, and introduced the several candidates to the meeting, and Mr Chas Jury interpreted the utterances into the Maori tongue. After Messrs Bunny and Beetham had spoken in the afternoon they took their leave, and Mr Buohanan's address was nofc : coinpleteU till nearly 7 o'clock last night. The candidates spoke strongly against the Native, Lands Administration Act, and expressed a wish that >it would shortly be repealed. They also assured the Nativosthat if elected, they would jealously guard over their interests. Wi Mahapuku, W. Taka, Pony Manihera, ; Karatiana and other Natives asked questions rospeotingthe pake and other Native affairs, and appeared well satisfied with'tho replies, '..'.-.•,'..•. At the conclusion of the : proceedings, votes of thanks wero passed to the several candidates, and the Maories announced that they would give their views mature consideration before deciding for whom they should vote. . v
