An attempt wos made last night to bum down Mr Gilbert's Temperance Hotel here by sejtting fire to the outhouses. ( Two jockeys, named James Cleary and Frank Greon, were arrested at Ellerslie Inst night, and charged with putting a truck oh the railway line at Ellerslie, on the 20th ult., to obstruct tfce engine; and with wilfully breaknig n. door, the property of James Campbell of tho EUerslie Hotel. A eeriouß accident was narrowly averted as the engine ■ drives: had just time to pull. up his train, r> having observed the obstruction on tho line. The prisoners appeared at the Police Court this morning and were remanded.
