(TO THE EDITOR.)
Shi.—ln jour issue of yesterday Mr Hawkins writes at considerable longth on the" Wages Question." To this I have_ no objection,, so long as that gentleman keeps to facts and deos not draw upon imagination, Mr Hawkins characterises 'one of ,my motions as bogus and says: "Mr Mackay and his friends were afraid that Mr McCardle would propose a resolution to rescind, and get the credit of being the roadmen's champion, so Mr Mackay put on the notice of. motion to take the wind out of Mr McCardle's sails." Permit me, sir, to state : through your paper, that in giving the notice of motion relative to the wages and wliares, that I consulted neither friend or foe, not even Mr Hawkins. I am glad that Mr Hawkins recognises the outcome of my bogus motion, and the one to provide wliares " as one of the best days work the Council ever did." I am, &c., Thomas Mackay.
