LAND BOARD.

The uaual fortnightly meeting of the Land Board was held on Thursday morning. Present—Messrs J. W. A, Marchant (chairman), H. Bunny, G. Beetham, W, W. McCardle, W. A, Fit&horhert, v and A. Reese. The schedule Bhowed that 375 acres 1 rood and 5 ■ perohea of' land has been dispoaed of since last-meet-ing at an upset price of L 469 93. The following applications for leave to trarinter were granted 011 the usual conditions: —E. F. Hellish, section 504, Featherston, to Mrs W. Buokeridge; M. B, Taifc, section 25, Block V,, Kopuaranga, to C. Taifc; F. B. Porter, perpetual lease, section J,/Block IV., Mansion e, to himself and his brother, L. G. Porter, as tenants'in •'common. Permission was granted to Dr Wallace to reside off his deferred payment section, 541, Block VIII,, Waiohine. A lotter was received from the Under-Secretary of Crown Lands, stating that the Government had withdrawn from sale sections 148 to 151, Hunterville, and propose to offer them for cash in one allotment at-an upset price of L 5 per acre. The Board approved of the action taken by'the Government. • ■ The selector of deferred payment sections 205 and 206 wrote, giving lijs reasons for not residing on the land. The secretary was instructed to inform him that he could not be excused from complying with the regulations, and a similar auawer was directed to- be sent to the selector of sections 85, 86, and 101, Hunterville. An application was received from Mr R, Marsh for permission to erect a sawmill on Crown Lands, Mangataiuoke, and to cut timber over the unsold sections, also to purchase one of the acre sections. Mr Bunny moved and Mr Fitzherbert seconded, that the mattor stand over, in order that the Government might be asked if there is any objections to tlio , balance of the sections as surveyed being offered for sale, and if the Government, would authorise the bush of the roads being felled and cleared, Carried, Mr H. H, Hoff also asked for the lease of section 17, Hastwell, in order that'ho might erect a sawmill on the land, and to have the first refusal of the land when it is offered for safe, his improvements "Being valued and added to the price, It was resolved to let the matter stand over on the same grounds as the .'previous application. The Board did not entertain Mr Hitchings's application to be allowed to fell the land applied for by him by at Kaihata, The Commissioner

recommended that tho Tokomaru and i Hearo Reserves be dealt with aa land of I special value, having been set aside as a Village or Township Reserves, and being important positions, relatively to the adjacont Crown Land, also that the leases be approved. The. Board agreed to the proposition. .Tho Eketahuna Road Board forwarded the proposals for the expenditure of accrued thirds, for sections in their district. The proposals were approved of with the exception of .29, 32, Block III; Mangaqne,. the consent of the. electors having to be obtained... The selectorof . section 3; Block. -I, Kopuaranea, applied to be allowed to abandon his interest in the section It was resolved to take action aftor 60 days. With reference to the cancellation of the jeaso of deferred payment sections 18 and 20, Block 11, Mangaone, it was resolved to take tho necessary steps to obtain possession of the land. It was resolved to give the selector of section 47, Block X., ; Mangaone, notice through tho Gazette that if he did comply with the necessary conditions the lease would be cancelled. Proposals for the sale of 20,000 acres of rural land in the the Kopui'auga,Maugaone, andAlfredton and Otamakapua Blocks, woro submitted by the Commissioner, and it was resolved to offuv tho land for sale under the following systems Cash, deferred payment, perpetual lease and Bmall runß; residence on'deferred payment tobe compulsory after four years, and on perpetual lease after two years, Mr Beetham moved that sections. 182 and 133, Block IX, Mangaone, be reserved for a forest reservei However, on being pub to the meeting the motion was lost. It was resolved that the date for tho auction sale be loth September- The Commissioner informed the Board that the Tutaekara BlockJiad been allotted to a Special Settlement Association. On Mr McCavdlo's 'notion it was resolved to add that portion of Crown Lands cutoff by the deviation of Moore's Road to sections 21 and 23. The Board then adjourned.—Prose.
