THE NATIVE DIFFICULTY.

Auckland, July 23. The disturbance and threatened cannisbalism among the Hauhau natives in Hoiianga, district cul-
mmated on Friday morning, when the whole camp was arrested. The capture was effected under the direction of.Mr Bishop, R.M. He sent Inspector M'Govern with ten constables and eleven specials to invest the Hauhau camp before daylight. As day broke the police came up, and,the. Hauhau leaders called on. their followers to attack the police with axes and. clubs. A .severe struggle took: place, during which some of the constables received nasty cuts.. The Hauhaus 'were repeatedly called on to lay down their arms, under pain of bang fired at by the police. Eruera urged the Hauhaus not to surrender, but to attack with, renewed vigor, The police fired several shots at Eruera, who is severely wounded. The Hauhauswerethen captured and handcuffed, The prisoners numbered fourteen men and nine women. A few helpless women and children were left alone. The prisoners were speedily conveyed to Waihou Bridge, where the steamer Piaka awaited the party to convey thorn to Eawene. On tho European side, Constable' Hughes was wounded on the head, and Constable Moore on tho shoulder. All were covered with mud in which they fought. On the Maori side Eruera Rapana is suffering from bullet wounds, and four others are wounded, inoluding Makara, who received an axe wound in the baok ■from Constable Hogg,.who wrested the weapon from his assailent, The prisoners are to be brought before Mr Bishop,R.M., this morning, and will be forwarded to Auckland at once if committed for trial.
