THE MASTERTON JUBILEE.

A general meeting of, the Masterton Jubilee Celebration Committee was held at the Central Chambers last evening.. Mr T. Mackay in the chair, there being about dozen members present. " j

After the minutes, of the previous meeting had been 'read and confirmed, the Secretary, Mr E. Jones,, read the balance sheet, which showed that the total expenditure had been £77 2s 2d which included the catering for the ball, £ls Cs. The receipts showed a deficit of £4 6s 2d, the gross takings at the ball being £4O, and the Magic lantern entertainment £8 Is, total subscriptions received being £lO la. The statement ot the school treat fund showed the expenditure to be £2B 8s Bd, which leaves a balance of £1 ail 4d to be returned to the Town Lands Trust.'

The balance sheet wag adopted with slight alterations, and the accounts passed for payment. I It was resolved that the Chairman and Secretary be authorised to sign cheques. • That the offer of Messrs Williams and Barker to pull down the Triumphial Arch and remove the decorations for tho timber contained in the arch, be accepted, the work to bo done not later than Friday next. A vote of thanks to tho Chairman and Secretary was proposed by Mr W. H. Beetham and seconded by Mr J. Macara, tho proposer passing a high compliment on both gentlemen for the manner in which they worked to cnaure the success of tho demonstration.;!

. Mi" Hooper thought that the secretary should receive some more substantial recognition for his services. ' Mr Jones, in reply, said he did not undertake the duties with the object of gain, and would not .take any monetary consideration for what he had done, He entered into the affair as a citizen, and was pleased to see that his services had met with general approval.

Mr Mackay said that his payment had been suffiwent in. seeing the celebration such a success. He mentioned that there were several who w|ere not born under the British flag, ■biit who had taught some of the colonials a lesson in loyalty by the 'manner in which they had assisted in. tlie celebration. Notably among: these were Messrs Voight, Brasch,: Kutzner Bros, and Langeiiseipen. A Hearty vote of thanks to the ladies for their kind assistance, brought the meeting to & clow. ' ■
