Dr Bey is the W.M, elect, In this week's issuo of the Weekly Mr P. Dickson, of the Wholesale Drapery Company, announces to the country residents that his dressmaking department is under competent management, and that fit, stylo and finish can be confidently re> lied on, He also notifies that lie has a magnificent stock of new dress .fabrics and trimmings. Several loyal gentlemen have secured the use of the wool store opposite' this Blairlogio Junction Hotel, for the purpose of holding a Jubileo dance on the night of the 21st inst. Mr T. Carswell has kindly promised to supply tho suppor froo of cost, and we are requested by the promoters to state, that a cordial invitation is issued to all, with a hope that overyone present will don their best Jubilee behavior for tho occasion. A meeting of creditors in the estate of Geo. Bell was held on Tuesday afternoon at the Court House, Carterton, Mr StansGeld, deputy Assignee presided, and laid before the creditors a statement "of roceiptsatid expenditure as supplied. by the bankrupt. Mr Beard watched the case on behalf of the bankrupt, the total indebtedness being about £l3O. It seems a pity that when there is s.uch, an univorsal feeling- of Jubilee Demonstration in Missterton a great success, that tho Hands of the town should hold aloof and nut join in. Up to last evening's meeting nothing was decided about having music in the procession, beyond tho Salvation Army Band The Private (Pearson's) Band notified through a membor of tho Committeo that they would bo u.iable to attend, and Captain Donald could not promise that the Volunteer Band could attend as tliey; illicit be required in Wellington.' The Committee might, perhaps enlist the sympathy of tho musical organisations of the Lower Valley for tho occasion. Wearers of Tam O'Shanters beware! A dani'erous lunatic, who is reported to bo at present in this district, having, it is stated, escaped fiom one of tho Wellington Asylums, is described as being , tho happy possessor' of a Tam O'Shanteiv' For tho time being we aic afraid this class of head gear will be at a discount, for every individual who happens to wear one of an evening is now looked upon in fear and trembling by tho opposite sen, and, we blush to say it, 1 even by tho sterner sex. A n amusing incident occurred on Saturday evening, in the.direction of Kurupuni, owing to a well-knoim man of business being mistaken for the escapee through bis choosing to don a top cover of tho Tun O'Shantor typo. Having occasion to stop out later than usual, lie was hurrying homo with all possible speed when he heard a man bohind him evidently dogging his- footsteps,' Not' caving to meet tho Btrangor in a lonoly spot, and having heard tho rumor of the escapee, he stopped short and allowed his follower to come up. Imagine the surprise of the business man to find iiis pursuer to 'no no less a personage than one of our local bonifaces. In a few words the publican explained about the lunatic scaro, and how lie had mistaken him for the identical man, owing to his wearing the magio" Tammy." Wo need hardly say that the joke was highly appreciated by both, for sighs of relief followed each other in rapid succession over the convivial glass 'which' followed, and when the happy possessor of the Tammy loft for home, some time .after, be was heard to express a desire to " punch tho blooiain 1 'oad of any man who called him er loonertick."

The Jubilee cookery class met at the Central Chambers hat evening and held a long discussion 011 the mode of dressing, style of stuffing, time ofcookinp, manner of eating, and number of busters, for the celebration'\M, as one of the class termed if. .The dressing was left in the hands of our Chief Butcher, tho stuffing was held Oyer till the caroaao was done, when it '.was thought that the natives could attend to that part of the business, The time fixed upon for commencing the' roast was-Me on the night previous, or early on ; ; .' the morning of the Show. -The manner of eating did not seeiir to intorest tho class, their great desire; seemed to be to provide a feast for othur people and in their generosity'kindly to hand tho whole bullock to their native visitors and their dogs, The baling was a difficulty •not easily adjusted as no one was so enthusiastic as to sit up all night to ladle the' fluid on to the fat sides of the bull. As several suggestions were made on the subject there is no doubt that a selfacting spit will be connected with Mr Carey's water power, which will attend to the turning, basting, and distributing of the meat,'and so ease off the duties of the cooks
