Last general election our Carter-, ton contemporary supported Mr Buchanan, this time it announces tliat it has given itself over to Mr Bunny. In explaining the inexplicable it says " No man in Now Zealand has, of late years, done more to crush the settlers under a load of taxation, than Major Atkinson, and the member for Wairarapa South has been his tool in all this dirty and oppressive business." Why did not our Carterton contemporary denounce Major, Atkinson and .his tool at the last general election. The gallant Major lias not been in power since and it is. too late now to fire shots which ought to have been discharged three years ago. Our contemporary was quite right in confessing its change of front but it should leave explanations alone. There'are certain things which can be admitted but cauuot be exensed, and this is one,
