E. Chamber- jl, lain, J. Hessey, J. Macara, A. John- flk son, T. Parsons, W. lorns, F, Shaw, " and J. Kayner. The minutes ot the previous meeting were read and confirmed, The only correspondence received was a letter from Mr R. R. Meredith apologising for his nonattendance. The following members were then ballottod out of the general com. mitteo.—Messrs D. H.K-, Elder, D. Guild, J. Stuckey, and T. . E. Chamberlain. It was resolved "That it boarecom- >■ mendation to the general meeting that rule 8 ho amended by striking pub the works' five members of the Committee shall retire at the end of oach yoarby ballot.'with the object of inserting' that one third of .the Couioiitteo retire oach yoar in rotation, the orJbr' '■ of.retiretucntfor the first three years to be alphabetically, afterwards accord- -\ f ing to date of election." ; V - The Committee then adjourned foam the annual meeting. m ANNUAL MEETING, ' '" Tho annual meeting for tho election of officers, and general, washeld immediately after the above and was very largely attended, Mr Hawkins preaidBEPORT AJiD BALANCE SHEW. The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed, tba President read the report and balance Bheet, which showed the Society to bo ■ in a most prosperous position.. Ho apologised to members for not having the statement printed in the usual way so that it could have been circulated amongst them, but this; was owiug to its not being drawn up in . lime.
Mr J. Macara congratulated the "■ Society on holding such a satisfactory position and seeing the results weie so good ha considered the report should be published mi attm in the papers. ...^ On the motion of Mr B. ltaynofc'*. seconded by Mr Allen, "Thdropoßfcand balance sheet were unanimousljK x adopted and authorised to be putr* 1 Med. [Tho report and balance sheet will ' appear in to-morrow's issue.] ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Tho electiou of officers for the ensuing year was then proceeded with. PREBIDENTMr Buiok proposed the re-oloctiqn of Mr Hawkins ib President of the Association. _ Mr Macara in seconding the proposition, spoke in flattering terniß of the success which tho Society had attained under tho presidency of Mr Hawkins. Mr A- Johnston endorsod the previous speakers remarks, stating that Mr Hawkinß had spared neither pains nor trouble in furthering the welfaro of the Association, No matter how inclement tho weather, or how bad the roads, ho was always found at his post. Mr G. Beetham alluded to tho succcfs . ■attained by the Association with M^ : Hawkins at its head. There wereii very few societies in New Zealand whglL had such' a prosperous career. He had' ; quito recently attended a meeting of the Lowor Valley Association, and was pleased to find that the ill-feeling that had existed for some time between the Associations had passed away, Ha hopod in future tho only opposition they would have to contend with would bo that of healthy rivalry. There was. • plenty of room for two shows in. the. Wairarapa, and if they workod in W* mony there was nothing to prevent them pros.poriiig, Mr Hawkins had hinted that it would bo detrimental to the interests of the Association for him to hold tho position of president whilst standing as a candidate for Par. ■ liamentary honors. Personally, he failed to see how this could be bo, and he trusted no such idea would prevent Mr Hawkins accepting the position of President,

He hoped to rco ai, their annual shows the principal , prizes carried off by Wairarapa stock* , .owners, It was to their interests to , make these shows successful, and he \ was vory pleased to hear that the ' t rivalry that had existed between the two Associations was now at an end. vice-presidents. For the office of two Vice Presidents Messrs B. P. Perry, E. Meredith and G. Beetham were proposed. Mr Beetham expressed Mb willing, ness to retire in Mr Perry's favor, as he considered the latter gentleman, having borne the beat and burden of • the day was raoro entitled to hold' that* position. He had not been able tojm attend the moetings regularly himselfjft and therefore he did not consider hje deserved the honor. Mr Johnston thought Mr Perry didnofc attach myoh, importance to the position, otberwiso he would have been present. In fact, he thought, as Vice ' : President, he ought to have attended the meeting Mr Parsons said, if he remembered rightly, Mr Perry stated at the'last, annual meeting that he weald: ioT ■again seek re-election, '..""■' ". Beelham, in acknowledging the receipt of a notification from ihe Association, re seeing the GoTernmenfc and trying to get therti to reinovo the restrictions on the importation of stock, stated that he brought the matter before tho comuiitte appointed by the Houso to deal, with this subject, but they made no report and left the matter in abeyance. Subsequently ho put a notice on the order paper, which was answerod to the efl'uot, that Ministers were favorable to the proposition but did not care to take upon themselves tlio removal of restrictions without consulting the other colonics.
