LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
The Legislative Council met at 2.30. p.<n. A short discussion took placo on Mr Miller's raotiou to adjourn the Council. He took the opportunity to severely criticise the. fiuancial position of the colony, and said it was quits tiuio that rigid and uncompromising economy was practiced. Mr Reynolds moved tho second reading of the Representation Bill, which, after a brief discussion was agreed to, Un Mr Reynold's motion for the committal of the Bill to-morrow, Mr Pollen moved an amendment that the Bill bo committed presently. He argued that the dissolution was conditional on the Bill passing, and that wi's his reasons for opposing the Government. He denied that he was actuated by party considerations. Mr Oliver said as the present Bill expired in August, unless the new Bill passed before the Ist December the constitution of New Zealand would cease, and could only be revived by an Imperial Act. He considered tho Government's desire was to nuko the passage of the Bill a consideration for a Government proposal in another place being agreed to. Tim dobalo was iiilcrrupied by the 5 o'clock adjournment. The Council then adjourned until 7.30, In the eveningsitting, the motion for committal of tin Bill was put and curried. Before going into Committee,' the Colonial Secretary .dialed that there was no one in charge of the Bill, aurl lie would not take the position ftr Pollen intimated that ho would tako charge of the Bill, and he accordingly proceeded to the . The various clauses were then patsed - through without amendment, and the Bill was reported and passed.'
