LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.

The Legislative Council met at 2.30. p.<n. A short discussion took placo on Mr Miller's raotiou to adjourn the Council. He took the opportunity to severely criticise the. fiuancial position of the colony, and said it was quits tiuio that rigid and uncompromising economy was practiced. Mr Reynolds moved tho second reading of the Representation Bill, which, after a brief discussion was agreed to, Un Mr Reynold's motion for the committal of the Bill to-morrow, Mr Pollen moved an amendment that the Bill bo committed presently. He argued that the dissolution was conditional on the Bill passing, and that wi's his reasons for opposing the Government. He denied that he was actuated by party considerations. Mr Oliver said as the present Bill expired in August, unless the new Bill passed before the Ist December the constitution of New Zealand would cease, and could only be revived by an Imperial Act. He considered tho Government's desire was to nuko the passage of the Bill a consideration for a Government proposal in another place being agreed to.
