During a porformauce of "Mignon" at the Opera Ooniique last night, a firo broke out in the theatre, aud tlio building was burned to the ground. The audionce succeeded in oscaping, but twenty of the peri'orraors lost their lives.
From the latest account it appears that tlio loss of'life at the Opera Comiquo, whore a fire broke out during the performance of "Mignon" last night, was greator than at first reported. In addition to the deaths among the performers, 60 persons were more or less soriously injured, and it is feared soveral bodies aro hi the ruins of the building, which was completely destroyed;. Constantinople, May 26. .The Ottoman Porte has refused the demands of the Cretan inhabitants, and threatens to proclaim martial law throughout the islithd unless they are at once withdrawn.
