The Lynch family of Bellringera have been drawing larpo houses at tho Opera House, Auckland, On the last night of the soason, the Earl of Aberdeen was present and remained behind tho stage the preater portion of the evening, and eomplimontedthe family upon their wonderful ability, tho exquisite music produced far surpassing anything of the kind he had ever heard; Upon leaving, he shook hands with the members'' of tho Company, and wished them a prosperous trip through New Zealand. Tho United Christians' Convention was held in the Wesleyan Church, Carterton, onTuosday last, and,was attended.by. people from all parts of the Wairarapa district, and also a number from Wellington. The service commenced shortly after 11 o'clock, by the Rev Mr Thompson, from Waihenga, who gave an appropriate discourse, after which lie administered the Sacrament. The afternoon was devoted to readings and speeches from different visitors, .and in the evening the pulpit was occupied by the Rev. J. Ward, when the Church was, well filled with an attentive congregation. Sankey's hymns were used for the whole of tho services throughout the day. At the meeting of the Wellington, Education Board, held yesterday, the question of the purchase of a site for a second school for Masterton was deferred for a mouth. Tenders wero opened for the proposed additions to the Carterton School, but the work was found to be too costly [to justify such an expenditure. The matter of repairing the master's residence was left in the hands of Messrs' Buchanan and Bunny. The Board recognised the appointment of a teacher to the Brancepeth aided school. Miss Bapge was appointed pupil teacher at Masterton, and a bonus of LlO was granted to Mr A, Feist, of the Fernr'dge School, Mr McCardle presented a petition from the settlers of the Pahiatua village, praying for a Bchool to be erected in the district. After considerable discussion, it was decided to postpone the mattor, so that plans of the proposed site could be produced and tho opinion of tho Pahiatua School Committee taken on the subject.

A meeting of the Federated Shearers' Union of Australasia was to have been hold last night in the Masterton Drill Shed. Two solitary shearers attended, the gathering, and Mr Spenco, the itinerant president of the Union, prudently withheld the harangue prepared for the occasion. We are not sorry for this result as shearers and flockowners are on fairly good terms in this district, and making mischief between them is undesirable,,
The Taueru v school children had -an enjoyable day on Tuesday last, when the' annual picnic aiid; distribution of prizes took place in the paddock of Messrs W, and H. Beetham. i There was plenty of everything for yfilio little ones, and the weather was glorious. Sports of all kinds were arranged,"arid some very good races were run by the elder soholars. Mr Robert Donald-presented the prizes to the successful soholars, and th 6 day's proceedings terminated with a dance in the woolahed. ' ; "
Messrs Lowes and lorna report at their stock sale yesterday their entries comprised 3000 sheep, 150 head cattle, 10 horses, pigs, etc,, all of which sold under the hammer. Sheep maintained previous rates, especially wethers, which showed an increase. Cattle still ruled low; tho only lines selling at all freely were fat or forward stock. Borses still "proved a drug.
