ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual meeting of ratepayers took place on Saturday, May 7th, at 3 o'clock, Mr W. Jessen presiding. The Chairman read the annual report as followsln submitting my annual report I must congratulate the Board on its progress during the past year. This being the first year's operations, it has necessitated the purchase of different articles which will not occur in the future. Such purchases amount to £l3 19s 9d, The . printing and advertising expenses .will -also be reduced by £5 lis fid, and adding to those items the £ll 8s fid paid to the Masterton Board, I find that the extras amount to £3019s 9d. The receipts tor the year amount (o £535 7s sd; the expenditure, £443 8s 4b, leaving a balance in hand on March 31st of £9l 19s Id, The general rates in arrear on

that date amount to £1414s 7d, but £9 [ 9s 3£d had since been received, leaving outstanding rates at this date at £5 Ss 3|d. The balance sheet shows assets over liabilities £323 4s lid, but'deductions £225 12s 6d on amount of deferred payment mouey. We are still £9712s 5d to the good, and considering we commenced the year with a debt of £llßs Gd we have done very fair." The cost of election, advertising, printing, books, stationery, postage, et-Ci,araounts to £36 8s lOd, or a fraction over eight per cent on the expenditure. The balance sheet had not been returnsd by the District Auditor, although due on April 30th, 1887. No discussion of any kind ensued, the ratepayers evidently being satisfied with leaving everything entirely to the Board, .
