BENEVOLENT.

The ordinary monthly meeting, of the North Wairarapa Benevolent Society was held at the Masterton Institute yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon,'Present—Bevs. W. E. Paige ■ (Chairman), J. N. Buttle, D. Pulton, and Messrs Keith, and Gapper. t Tlio minutes of the. previous meeting were read and confirmed, and the Treasurer reported a orodii balance of £ll9 'l2s 4d. Acommunication was read from the Audit Department requesting the balanco sheet and a report of assets and liabilities to the end of the fiuanical year viz March 81st ult.. The sum of £BB Os 7d was reported to have been paid to the credit of tho Society from the Treasury department, The estimated reoeipts and expenditure for the year ending March 81st, 1888, was read as-follows:—Receipts: subscriptions £100,.. special subscriptions and' donations- £l5O, subsidy £3OO, required from toe-District Board £IOO. Total,£6so. Expenditure:' Rents £SO, allowance on account of special subscriptions £250. Bations ■ olothing &e. £BOO, funerals £ls, printing and stationery £lO, postages and salaries fe £26. Total £650. - The following accounts werecertified ,to and.passed for payment: -Messrs Graham, 46.12s 6d; McGlaslian, £2 178.6dv.Temple,£8.5s; Mackay, £1 9s; G. ■ Awomanwhosehusband had deserted herand,wa3 living with .another woman in the Soiith Island/applied to be sent to Wellington, bo that she could get advice and assistance there. She was recommended to, apply to the E.M., for advice in theniatter, as the Society was not in.a position-to deal with cases' of that description, especially Where the husband was known to be able to support thosedependent on him. A letter was read from John Webb, stating that he had ho "further need of assistance r frpm the Society and sincerely thanking them -for their kindness towards Ins family. Several casuals were reported to'.have, been relieved during the month. The usual oases of relief were dealt with-and t>hfl. amounts continued for the current month.' Be the case of an Italian, whom the Wellington. Society^was about to forward to the Wairardpa, it was decided not to take any aoti'on in the matter until a communication had been received.from the Wellington Society on the subject.
