GREYTOWN SPORTS.
The Greytown Friendly Societies Sports came off yesterday. The morning was rough, but in the afternoon the weather was fair although windy. About 200 persons were on the ground. In the morning the Oddfellows' and Foresters' Lodges with the Juvenile Oddfellows, to the number of about 70, marched in procession, headed by the Greytown Band, to the reserve where the sports took place. Mr G. Jones had a publicans| booth on the ground, and Mr A. Grigg, a confectioner's stall. The first event was The Maiden Race, 220 yds, and resulted as follows: D'Arcy 1, W. Tully 2, R, Wakelin 8. Six others started. Time, 26sec. Friendly Societios Handicap, 440 yards: D. Nicholson 1, C. Amos 2, Jonah Harris 8. Five others also ran. St. Patrick's Handicap, 120 yds: Gardener (4yds) 1, R. Thompson (Byds) 2, O. Smith (10yds) 8. Obstacle Race, 220 yds: Mcßay 1, T. C. Udy 2. Mcßay was never caught. Three others started. Walking Handicap: Hodge, scratch, I.E. Udy 2. Time 15min llf sees. 100 yards Handicap-: T. C. Udy, 2 yards, 1, J. Peters, 4 yds, 2, B. R. Gardner, 2 yards, 8. St. Patrick's Handicap, 440 yards: John Harris, 4 yards, 1. B. R. Gardener, 2 yds, 2, Peters, 8 yds, S. Time 1 minute. . Half Mile Handicap: E. Collier;. 20 yds, 1, E. Gardener, 80 yds, 2, H. Hodge, 15 yds, 8. Time 2 min 20|secs. Obstacle Race: Goldsmith 1, G. Parker 2. Handicap Hurdles, 220 yards: T. C. Udy 1, O. Smith 2, John Harris 8. Time 29secs. Half Mile Race Handicap; E. Collier, 20 yds, 1, A. E. Gardener, 80 yards, 2. Three others also ran. Reid retired .about half way round. This was a good race. Second Obstacle Race, 220 yards: Goldsmith 1, G. Parker 2.. Two others also ran. Third event St. Patrick's Handicap, 220 yards: O. Smith, 15 yds, 1, B. R. Gardner, 8 yds, 2, W. Catt, 9 yds, 8. Time 24|seca. B. R. Gardener, with 11 points, was the winner of this Handicap, O. Smith, with 7 points, 2, John Harris, 2 points, 8.. 100'yardB open handicap:, J. Ryan 1, Jonah Harris 2, W. Tully 8. . Hurdle Race Handicap: (440 yds); T. 0. Udy 1, J. Ryan % R.Thompson 8. ' Mile Race Handicap; E. B. Coleman (110 yds) 1, E, Golliei-.(aO yds) 2, A. Gardener (80, yds) 8. • H. Hodge with 40yards also started the relative positions all the way round were not materially altered, and Coloman won easily. Time 4min 57fsec. Consolation Handicap; (220 yds); E. Udy (7 yds) 1, Walter Tully (7ydp) 2, John Harris (scratch) 8. Four others also started. This was, a well contested' race and Tully was only beaten within a yard from home Most of the races were well, contested, ; and the handicap was thought very satisfactory. Some hoys races run;' two of them being won by young E. Raisin, an'd one the half mile:-Handi-cap was won by F. Riddler with ..(10 yds). Eighteen started. ' The boss obstacle, race was won by H.Udy;H.'Rowe2'. The-Boys Walking Match was won by Maurice Wood. The.,Greytown Brass Band played at intervals during the afternoon, and the Committee, deserve great credit for the manner in whichthey ''carried out their duties. ' '.
