ST. PATRICK'S DAY
The weather was very unfavorable yesterday for the celebration of Ireland's patron Saint's Day in the Wairarapa, and put a damper on all outdoor festivities. A heavy downpour of rain during the previous night was followed by a splendid early morning, that promised a pleasant day's outing for the holiday makers. But about nine o'clock black clouds rose in the South, and cold showers, that seemed to freeze the very marrow of one's bones, came at regular intervals during the morning, compelling those who had arranged for open air festivities, .to look around for some indoor amusement. Owing to this cause the attendance at the Races at the Opaki was not so numerous as was anticipated, and the Greytown Sports, the centre of attraction for South Wairarapa, failed to draw a crowd sufficient to raise a smile on the faces of the promoters, but, notwithstanding' this drawback, there was good sport at both places.
