CORRESPONDENCE.
BOROUGH GAS REPOET: [To the Editor,] Sin—-I beg to correct a statement made in Mr J. B. George's report on the Masterton gas works. He states that " the retorts are set in a manner that will shorten their lives [meaning, I suppose, their durability] there being no brickwork to support them between the front and the back walls." lam in a position to say that this is altogether incorrect. The bottom retorts each rest on four bearing walls equally divided in the length of the retort, the top one being supported by the two end walls and a centre pillar, independent of the bottom ones, which any one can see by looking through the sight boxes.
