MASTERTON-OPAKI JOCKEY CLUB.
The half yearly meeting of the above Club was lield on Saturday evening at the Club Hotel, the President (Mr W, Lowes) in the chair, Tenders wore opened for the lease of-tlie race course for cropping purposes and Mr T, E. ■ Chamberlain's offer of £lB5 per annum for a five year's term, .was accepted. .Two others, were received, viz., Mr 11 Campbell, 1117, and Mr D, McLachlan £llO. Tho Socretary was requested to get the necessary fencing done on'the course (about 25 chains) so. that the leasee'would be protected during the race meetings." .'V!' Itwag resolved that numbered saddle cloths be procured for the'use.of horses engaged at the Club's race meetings. Two new members were elected, and the meeting adjourned. The Masterton-Opaki Jockey Club decided on. Saturday evening to procure numbered saddle cloths for the use of horse owners at the club's meotings. The object of these cloths is that they enable the public to recognise at a glance the horses that are. running, as each one has a cloth numbered to correspond with the race book, and thus obviate tho necessity of making enquiries as to the name of this or that animal that is engaged in a race. In the Marlborough Oup of 1200, two miles, to bo run on Wednesday nest, Administrator carries.9st 41b, and Rumor, Bst 21b. There are seven accoptors, Black Bose being top weight with 9st 51b. Administrator is looked upon to furnish the winner in this event. In the flying handicap of £4O there are six acceptors, Bevoke carrying Bst 91b, Black Eose 9st Gib, heading tho list,
