FIRE.
A four roomed cottage situated on the Waipoua river bed, occupied by Mr 31 Mm, natjve schoolmaster, and owned by Messrs M. Caselherg & Co., waß destroyed by fire afcnoon to-day. Both firebellg rang out vigorous peals, and' the Brigades were soon on tho spot with their engines and gear, but the fire had obtained such a firm hold that it was impossible to save' anything". MrSillarswas away at tho time and the origin of tho fire is a mystery. When first discovered, it wail- -burning up the sich) of the chimney which -was a double one built inside the house. Mr Sillars was known to have a valuable collection of books, also a set of photographing apparatus all of which have been destroyed, The house wasinsured for£7s. .■'.■•'• '; :'■■"'
