RAM AND EWE FAIR.
The' Earn and Ewe Fair under the' auspices of the Masterton Agricultural Society waß held at Messrs Lowes and lorns sale yards yesterday, The entries totalled to upwards of 600, which included Lincoln and Romney Marsh Rams from the principal breeders in the Wairarapa, Canterbury, and Pfogo districts. Thp attendanpe'of buyers from the whole of the Wairarapa and East GpasJ; was very large, and the bidding was far more spirited than was antici: pated. Considering the low rates at which sheep are ruling, with the exception of a few old worn-out Romneys
and Lihoolna, the whole catalogue was disDosed of, the principal demand throughout being for Lincolns, the fiomnoy Marsh being out of favor just now,' The whole of the Shropshire and Southdowns sold readily. Merinos weiVquite neglected, In Lincolns Mr Stuckey headed the list, his entries being much admired, and fitfor any exhibition in Sew. the, figures ranging from L34s to L6l7s 6d. The next in Lincolns were those, from Mr Reid,of Elderalie, whicnranged:from LB•&>' '.14.' /In Romneys/Mr Allen,' of jQJarevilte, was foremost,,his'. r,ams iriaking' from L2'td;L4j. Mr Reid• coming.next. from 40s to 60s. Mr Stuckey also headed the list in;; Shropshire and Southdowns, the prices ranging irora L2los for the former to L 3 12s 6d, for the latter from L2 7s to L 3 ss'; Mr Reid coming next. in Southdowns, his prices for # nice pen of ten, which wero quoted at two guineas. ' The majority of Lincolus of local breeders and romneyt sold at 10s to 30a each. No'Cotswolds were entered. The firm' | of Messrs Lowes k Ibrris conducted the sales. • . '■' " " ■'.
