BENEVOLENT SOCIETY.
The usual monthly meeting of the North Wairarapa Benevolent Society was held at the Institute yesterday afternoon, Presunt. —Eov. W, K, Paige (Chairman), Rev. J. N, Buttle,:; Messrs Keith and Macara. : The minutes of the previous meeting, wero read and confirmed, utid.the Treasurer reported a credit balant»£|f £ls 19a lOd, amouufc of subsilp, donations, Ac., received sinco luet meeting 465 7s, expenditure £52 186 lOd. ' A letter was read from James White asking the Society to pay tho rent and assist his sister who wus left with fivechildren, as) he could afford to do it no . longer, having his own family to pro- A vide for. The Chairman ; oxplainedF that the person referred to, Mrs Cleaver, had expressed a wish to be eent to the South Island, whore she would be able to earn a living for herself and family," and the Society had paid her passage down,
The following cases were have been dealt with during the past, month Mrs O'Connor, with ona" child, whose husband had.gone to Kim?, berley, and was now in the Hospital ih" Australia through a snake bite. Since he left this district his wife had bt&a in a situation, but left it at Christmas expecting his return home, but he was' delayed through the misfortune refer- , red to.
