Strong efforts were made to prevent the fire extending to Mr Scott's fancy goods shop on the northern side of Arrowsmith's, and were partially successful, but considerable damage' was done by water. Arrowsmith's and Lindsay's shops were completely destroyed, while Mr Scott.s premises were gutted. The origin of the fire is unknown.
