Whareama v Masterton. The match betwoen the above teams was played on the Park Oval on Saturday, and the pitch ffhioh the Maaterton had turfed was used, and was found to play excellently, the visitors being loud in their praises of it, The pitch doos Mr Jackson, who turfed it,- great credit,Messrs A. Eldor and VV. McKonzie captained the team, Messrs Jackson and E. Minifie acting as umpires. McKenzie won the toss and as the whole of tho visiting team had not arrived, took the field, The up-country men were disposed of for 64, H. Elder being tho only ono to get into double figures, though several of the batsmen showed very fair form, Tho Maaterton men then handled tho willow, but were not disponed of till tho score had reached 130, Stokes playitig a fino innings, putting together 3B not out,, and five of the others got into double figures. In tho second innings tho Whareama team fared evon worse, and the . total only Reached 43, thus leaving tho Masferton team-winners by an innings and 32' runE, In this innings W. Smith was. tho only one to make a''stand and pat together his runs in very' good style. Chapman bowled well for tho visitors and. Williams and Perry did good service with tho loatiier for tho home team, -whilo Stokes, played splendidly behind tho wickets with the gloves. At two o'olock both teams adjourned to the.Occidental!' where Host Phillips had prepared an excellent lunch. The President of tho Ma6terton Club, Mr' P. G, Moore, occupied tho chair, and the captain of tho team the vice chair. After full justice bad-been done to the spread, the Chairman said they did not propose to have nhy toasts,- he would' thank the visitors for the kindness and hospitality which had been shown the Masterton team by Messrs Elder and Mr Mackay on •the occasion nf their visit to Lanpdale last year, and hoped they would hive many mora such re-unions botwoon Iho districts; : !
