THE FERRET NUISANCE.
What might, had it Happened to a child' have proved a seriouß if not fatal attack' happened on the road to the Ohaiipoaale" yard a few days ago.! The Bona of Mr F.Thomas, of Hukanui, -were driving cattle along the Hamiltou-Ohaupo roid to the' sale, when a small-strange animal sprang out of the fern towards the cattle, and one of them putting down its head to smell it, the creature fastened on itß note but was soon, however, shaken off.-' One of the dogs then watohed its opportunity, for the animal -stayed to show fight, and .succeeded in seizing and killing it. The boys had never seen anything of the kind before, and took it home, when it was recognised as a fine specimen of the yellow ferret, and yet it is such animals as theao that the Government- are introducing wholesale into the colony to-abate the rabbit nuisance. The rabbiti are bad : enough, but how about the ferrets When their supply of. rabbit shall have been con' sumed?
