LICE ON STOCK.
It is well known that these parasites not only infest animalß, but they will live for a long time in crevices between slabs orboardß, and even in fences near to Btables in dry weather, so it it a wise plan' to thoroughly'whitewash the stables oaoh - autumn, This destroys the eggs and lico and 1b a good preventive measuro. In an address on the subject, Professor A, Ji Cook says ;-It is a ourious foot that some cattle are much more Bubjoct to attack than are others.. It is hard to Say just now, why this is so, but of the fact there can be no question. There are three easy ways to destroy these pests;— First, p ointment made of sulpher and kerosino spread upon tho animal whero they are the thickest, is sure to kill all lice touched. While 1 found this satisfactory in treating poultry, it has not worked so well with cattle. It reduoea tho number of lice, but it' is liot so ea«y to inako the application so thorough.as to kill all, and the rapid increase of these little blood-suckers uiajjea thair numbers and mischief soon after a« bad as before treatment. A decoction of tobacco upon the whole, givoß the best satisfaction, This is oasily mado by turning hot water on any kind of tobacco. The oheap stems answo'' as well as any other kind. Wero it not for the eggs, ono application of this kind would al tvaya suffice, I have often found it unnecessary to use it more than once. The work of washing an animal is quiokly and easily performed. Though 1 dotest tobacco, I find the use of it not very disagreeable. It is better to wash a colt or a cow on a warm day,
