This morning 1. K. Macdonald, a wellknown auctioneer, of Wellington, and J. Barfort, wero fined five pounds, treble duty and costs, for neglecting to furnish returns under Property Assessment Act, Both pleaded belief that the return had been forwarded, and only discovered the omission too late. Dr Fell, similarly mulcted, did not appear, Mr 6. BeethamM.fl.R., was elected to-day, to represent the Masterton and Grey town Boroughs on the District Charitable Aid Board, Groytown was unrepresented at the election, had its Borough Council made anothor choice, a curious dilommia would havo occurred as the Actdooß not provide for selecting between two or more candidates. Mr F. H. Wood held a very successful sale at the Featherston Sale Yardß yesterday, some 700 or 800 sheep, 40 head of. cattle, and sundry horses being disposed of at satisfactory prices. Owing to Mr Wood's energy and enterprise these sales are likely to become very popular. There waß a large attendance, and Mr Wood intimated that in future for the convenience of both buyers and sellers the sales would coramenoe punctually at 1 o'clock, The Committee of tho Maatorton Horticultural Society are engaged in pre- ! paring for their Sprinc Show in tho Drill Shod to-morrow. Entries will be received from 7to 9 this evening. The Society, in its larger premises will havo an excellent opportunity of making a grand display to-morrow, but we are not quite sure that it is making tho most of its opportunity. Tho Committee this year appear to be slightly somnolent. S. Matthew's Church was crowded to oxcesß yesterday afternoon by visitors anxiouß to witness tho celebration of tho nuptials of Miis Yates, of tho Upper Plain, and Mr Olapham, a gentleman who occupies a position in the Postal Department at Wellington. The bride, who was pronounced to be one of the prettiest centres of any marriage group which had yet appeared in the church, was charmingly attired in oriental lace and cream cashmere, wearing also gold ornamonts, the gift of the bridegroom's mother. The four principal bridesmaids, Miss Annje Yates, Miss Amy Yateß, and Misses Clapham (2), wore garnet brooches, set in gold, the gift of the bridegroom, and were attired in oriental lace dresses trimmed with pale blue ribbon. Tho ceremony was performed by the Rev. W. E. Paige, Mrs Paige kindly playing "The Wedding March." Tho party, numbering between sixty and seventy then drove to Mrs Yates 1 residence on the Upper Plain, where a sumptuous breakfast was followed by a ball, which only terminated with tho appearance of daylight this morning..
