The birds were m good condition ' lively on tho wing, and although the ! shooting was good, several pigeons, by ! means of their fleetness escaped out of j bounds. To prevent awron" impression that may have gained currency through an observation that appeared in °a ! Wairarapa newspaper, it may be men- ! tioned that the rules of the Gun Club do 1 not allow the members or competitors to leave the shooting marks to'fire at a ( bird, neither are tho shooters allowed to ! pull trigger at a bird that settles or J alights upon a bush or any eminence ' higher than an ordinary fence. As will '' be seen by the scores below, Mr Buchanan, M.H.R., won the first fivo bird ' match, having shot all his birds with the exception of one, and that escaped him, ' Mr Tancred shot well in this match, but ' had bad luck, by his birds getting out of bounds. Mr T. Graco tied with Mr ! Tancred for second place, but thoy agreed to divide. Tho next match was also a five bird one, and Mr Grace killed all his birds with tho first barrel, and was the winner. Thero wero seven entries. In ' shooting off for second place Mr Tancred proved the victor aftor two competitions with Mr Buchanan. After some shooting off with Messrs E, R. and H. Jones, Mr 1 Ingley secured third money. In the third match, a, three bird one, Messrs Tancred and Buchanan tied, and had to try conclusions for first honors, with four extra birds before the winning hit was made by Mr Tancred. A few glass balls wero shot at by Messrs A. Jones, Tancred, E. R. Jones, and Ewen and then the sport for the day was concluded, The scores are are follows : First Match, 5 birds, TI W, C.
