ALFREDTON ROAD BOARD.
A meeting of this Board was held on the second inst., wheu the following members were preseut;—Messars Kebboll, Smith, Marsh, and Freer, In the absence of Mr Good, the Chair was occupied by Mr Kebbell. Inward correspondence wan read as follows:—From Jas. Gallagher re rates on Section 15 Alfredton. Letter replied to by Clerk. School Oammisßioners ni reference to the proceedings pending at the instance of the Board for rates in arrear, giving an opinion of Sir Robert Stout's, that although the Registrar may have the power to sell tho education reserves referred to, he questions his power to graut a title. Resolved not to interfere, and allow the law to take its course, and tho Board declines to grant the six monthß extension requested; Board and Gray in reply about .charges for professional advice, no further action to be taken; Henry Dunn, drawing the attention of the Board to tho state of the Tawataia road, near Section 43, Block' 7, Mangaone Resolved to delay consideration till next meeting; W. J. Saunders, suggesting that steps should now be takemto have the Tiraumea district road cleared of of slips. Resolved that temdorsbe called to close on the 16th inst; Messrs Harvey Benton, and C. Macquarrio waited on the Board, and presented a petition signed by a number of settlers, praying for a right of way to their properties situated on the Ihauvua river, Resolved that the Board is willing to expend a certain sum _ towards the work: that the petitioners be aßkod how much they are prepared to contribute, and that the probable cost of the required work bo ascertained, A resolution adopting the provisions of the Local Bodies Loans Act 1886, generally within the district was confirms. Tho report of the Committee on special loans was adopted, and it was res*lved to borrow £I3OO under the Local Bodies Loans Act, 1886, for expon« diture as follows; £240 for completing disconnected sections of the Alfredton district road i £IOO for extension of the same road; and £9ijo for Expenditure on Eketahuna to Tiuui main road. That the statutory advertisement under the Act be inserted, and the meeting of settlers to consider the proposals be fixed for.Saturday, the 27th November at' 3 p.m. j Resolved that the Colonial Treasurer berequested to have the debentures issued under the "Roads and Bridges Construction Act" exchanged for debentures under the "Government Loans and Local Bodies Act." Messrs Smith, Good, and Marsh wore appointed a Committee to open and deal with tenders for 35 chains olearing on the Tawataia road, and Mr Smith to superintend and pass Ellaton's contraot on said road, Payments amouuting to £6 2s6d were passed, and the next meeting of the Board was fixed for Tuesday, the 7th December next.
