Sire Young Prince Charlie, by the imported Clydesdale, Old Princo Charlie -bred by Sir James Nicol Fleming. Prince Charlie's own brother, Princo of Wales was champion of Scotland, and was sold for LISOO. In Christchurch in 1872, Old Prince Charlie, when three years otd, took first prize against eight competitors, six of which were imported. Young Prince Charlie's dam Darling by Napoleon, took first prize for three years in succession against all comers as a dry mare. RUFUS' dam Blossom, by Farmer's Glory, out of same dam as Pride of Canterbury, took Becond prize at the Agricultural Show at Masterton in 1877, out ot a fiold of eight; at Carterton first in 1878 for mares with foal at foot, when five competed. RUFUS, bred by his owner at Manaia, admittedly comes from a pure Clydesdalo Btrain on both sides, and bears evidence of this by tho fact that, as regards size, bone, powerful- build, symmetry, and height, he is equal to the finest horse that has yet been imported, and is acknowledged as tho bost horse over Bhown in this district. He made his debut as a three-year-old at Ascot, where he won the Ascot Derby and St. James 1 Palace Stakes. As a four-year-old he won the Cumberland Plate, and defeated the Derby winner, Kingcraft, at level weiehts over two miles at Newmarket. His own brother, King Lud, was sold by auction to go to the stud for 6000 guineas.. An inspection of Voltigeur's tabulated pedigree will show that he is full of Emilius blood-sire of Riddlesworth.
