CORRESPONDENCE.
HOME LESSONS.' • To the Editor. . • i Sie, —I have been hoping that some one would have written ere this ou the above subject. Could you, or any of your readers, point out a way by whioh we could got them done away with. Are - they necessary in consequence of the pre- ; sent examination being 60 severe that, to enable the children to pass the Injgefr tor, they are absolutely imperative? war this is the caso. If so, would lrbe possible to have eight instead of six standards as at present, children to commenco at 1 and leave a.t 16. This would modify the severity of the examination# . and prevent children of 13 years having- ' to attempt to learn subjects which are in. many instances beyond their • capacities. ; (Practically this is done now, as a' lad passes tho 6th at 13, and stays on'as a ■ passed Gth scholar for two years lonsjef). Anyhow, I feel certain that.if the parents- ' of Mastorton were polled it would b<y found that 95 per cent would bo delighted to have home li'sboiib done away with, ai they are, to a certain extent, in Nelson./ I am, etc., ( % Parent. ,■
