PAHIATUA ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of tlio Board was held on Saturday. Present Messrs Miller, Wakeman, Moore, Corbett, and Crewe. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence—Outwards; To Carter and Groves accepting tender for bushfalling road line. To It, H. Rhodes re deviation Toritea road. To Public Works Department re the same. To Public Works Department re tho same. To Auditor General with adjusted Special Area rate roll. Inwards—From the Chairman of the Wairarapa East County Council urgently requesting the Board to take aotion in the matter of tho abandonment of the Forty Mile Bush road by the Government, also from the County Council asking the Board to send delogates to wait on tho Government about the matter. From Castlepoint Road Board endorsing tho action of the Pahiatua Board re expenditure of Government money on new roads. From Stoward of tho Village Settlement re tho overflow of the Mungaramarama at the Toritea Road bridge. From Mr Bottomloy re leasing the Board's Town acre. From Messrs Lewis and Co stating that the Toritea Road i contract would be completed in about ten days, and asking that they might be paid on the completion of the same. From Messrs Potter and others re the state of the Mungaramarama road North. The Overseer's report wa3 road. Tho Clerk also reported on his interview with the Auditor-General re adjustment of rates. -
Resolved, That some of the members visit the Toritea Bridge, and that tho Overseer bring up a report about it next meeting. That the Mangaramarama Road North bo aftonded to as soon as it iB dry enough to work on. That Mr Ilottoinley'B request be refused, That Mr Orewe be appointed delegate from the Board to wait on the Government with deputation from County Council' re Hie Forty-Milo Bush road, and in the event of the Government refusing to continue tho subsidy, that the length of road traversing this district bo handed over to the Pahiatua Road Board, as it could be better and moro economically managod by the Board than by the Count . That the information about rates bo forwarded as requested, That two men be placed upon the Tiraumea Road for a fortnight to improve the sharp turns, etc, That the Overseer roport to next meeting tho probable cost of roughly forming and bridging the whole length of Bridge-street in Kaitawa, Pahiatua-Pukotoi Special Settlement. That the Minister of Lands be informed of tho amount of work tho Board is about doing in the village settlement, and asking liim to supplement the same as suggested when on his lata visit to the district. That tenders be called for a bridge on the Toritea Road, between Sections 15 and 13, and also for metalling a short length of tho Makakahi Road, to be in by next meeting. That a requisition for £4OO ou account of loan be sont to the Treasury. That the Wairarapa East County bo again asked for tho money due to the Mangaramarama road. That tho Overseor's report be adopted. That the Clerk call a meeting of tho Works Committee to deal with final payment when section 5, Toritea road is completed. That tho special order re bringing district under provisions of Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886, be now confirmed, That McLellan and Co'b tender for bridge, £6B, and culvert £l6 in the Village Settlement bo accepted, Accounts amounting to £165 wore passed for payment. The meeting then adjourned.
