! The meeting of tho abovowas held at their chambers, Carterton on Saturday, Present—Ore Bunny (in the ohair) J. Tully, H. 11 Bunny, W. 0. Buchanan. The Clerk read.a telegram from .Cr W, Booth statin? his inability to attend, and asked the Council to adopt the Loca, Bodies Loan Act, 1886.- ■ Cr H. Bunny .was voted to the ehair. The minutes the previous meeting were read and confirmed. A telegram was read from Cr Phillip,
stating he was-unable,to 'attend and. ' asked that the motions Sfanditig in his name bo deferred. ' . The lreasufer reported a credit balanos of f4D2-,4s sd;-. . Corrfespofidehfie inwards from the con- , tiacto? for ihe Mart-inborough-Pahau road : asking tiite allowed to transfer the con- •' 'tkct.to Mr G, Paine, also from Mr G. Paine consenting to the same. - BioinConstable Mackay asking for expensos in taking a person to the Greytown Hospital. The Clerk was instructed to inform the Constable to forward tho account to the Government. From the Under-Secretary of Public Works re the.balance for public works. The usual correspondence was read from tho letter book. The report of tho Public Works Committee which was held sinco last meeting of the Council was read. A letter was read from Mr Kiimmor explaining of tho way in which the works on tho Kaiwhata bridle track was being done; in roply to which Mr King stated that he had written to the contractor on. tho matter. Mr Tweedale's report (as overseer of tho work) stated . & that considering the disadvantage the contractor laboured under, tho work was very fairly dono. Mr .Kin? suggested that tho contractor bo requested to remedy the complaints made in respects to tho culverts, and lie (Mr King) thought • that lie would do so. Mr Tweedalej . who was' present, stated tliat ho gave, the cortificato of approval, subject, to tho !. ; approval of Mr King. Cr W. C. Buchanan moved and Cr Matthews seconded, That Mr King iiißpoct the work .'and request that Mr Gardiner make I'ood tho culverts as com- ■ plained of and further that Mr King roport to tho Council tho best method of expending the balance of money appropriated to that road. v, . Cr H. K. Bunny moved that tenders be called for works oil tho GladstoneWainuioru road. Seconded by Cr Buchanan and carried. On the motion of Cr H, Bunny tho motions of Cr Phillips wore ordered to • stand over till next meeting. ;' Cr Matthews moved, and. Or Martin seconded, That at the next; Meeting, this Council adopt-the Local Bodies Loan Act 1880. . A mattor of dispute with Mr Roe was ; left in the hands of tho ; Public Works ' Committeo to deal with. Crs Buchanan an<J H. It. Bunny toported that Mr. Sexton asked' for' an nxtension ot the lease of the Hutunuiorangi reserve, as ha wished to extend his building accommodation, and that tho preseut (caso was too short to" recoup. ■' him for Ihb outlay. The report was acceded to on tho following tovmaThat lie givo up three acrcß in ono block for the roadman and pay an additional £5 rent, and submit tho plan of tho alter- v > ations to the next meeting of the Council for their approval. Cr J. Tully asked that tenders be called for works on tho Martinborough-Palmu road, to comiuenco from Emngton's contract to tho first- bridge on Dawson'B contract. i
S*mo accouuts were passed for payment and tho meeting terminated, Tho Chairman, in passing tho account for Mr Tivoediile, stated that tho Council woroMrry that they'.did not require his services any more at present, but as soon as Mr Dawson's contract was finished the Council would bo most happy to employ him again tri inspect tho works as they had every confideneo in liih), v !
