Single, aud resulted after a vory good garao iu a. win for tho Benedicts by 29 ruiia. Considering this was tho first game of the season, and that many of those taking party handled the willow and leatlior for the tiist time this year, tho display of cricket was very fair. Tho lar{<o amount of now blood bids fair to make tho Club very etronjr, and tlm old players will have to look to thoir practise to got a place in toam, Moore captained tlio married men, while Perry acted in like capacity for the bacliolors. The latter won the toss, and elected to bat lirat. Littlejohu aud Howell wero tho only ones to mako any stand, tho former making 20 in very good style, and the kttor putting together 7 before he was inn out. Williams made top score with H, Mac--lay coming next with 14 to his credit, while Itawson also got into doublo figures being run out for 12. A procession headed by the band started about 2 o'clock from tho Postoffico. Upon arrival at the ground Messrs Hawko and Cox picked sides, aud some good practice was indulged in, mixed with a good doal of fun, but unfortunately the attendance of the public was not as large as tho object of the match merited, viz., tho raising of funds for the reaut'vo, Mr Cox's sido went first to tho wiclwtg, and were all disposed of 'ftr 48 rutis, Wobstor being highest with 16. A cricket match has bpen arranged between the Opaki Cricket Club and tho Tradesmen's Cricket Club for Saturday next. The Foathorston Cricket Club held a meeting on Thursday evening, about thirty members and intending members being present. Mr Macsliano; was voted to the chair. It was pointed out. that the ,meeting held a few days since was informal, and this view was adopted. , A Committee was appointed, with Mr Speakman as Secretary and Mr Macshaue Treasurer. It was arranged the season should bo opened 011 Wednesday next at 2 o'clock with a scratch match, and that ordinary practices be held 011 Wednesdays at i p.m., and Satiirdays at 2 p.m, A wisp provision iyasmadeasto practice, viz., that each momtjor should be aljoted a fixed tjp at the wickets, etc. The Qlt)b bid? fair to come up to its old standard, and front tl|e interest shown at tho meeting should be able to niako some lively work for opposing teams during the season,
