The North Canterbury Educational Institute will bring forward the following Bubjects at the anuual meoting of the New Zealand Educational lastitute:—l. Tho re-arrangement, of tho standard syllabus, so ?s to make some additional subjects optional, and to distvibutu tho work over seven standards instead of six. 2. That the drawing at present required is too hard, especially for Standards V and VI. 3. That Inspectors should bo placed undertlia Contral Department. <l. That tho number of pupil teachersshould be reduced gradually till the proportion is one pupil teacher to one adult. 5, That an examining syndicate should be appointed to conduct the inspection and examination of secondary schools. 6. That the syllabus of examination of pupil teachers should be uniform throughout tho colony, the examination to bo conducted by the Central Department, that it ij desirable that the engagements of pupil teachers be for five years before their admission to the Normal School. 7. That rulo 6of the standard regulations, 1885, ought to be amended as follows:—the worls, "During threo quarters preceding quarter in which examination takes place," to be omitted, and there should be inserted in their place "Since last examination," aud that words ''Three-quarters" (repeated) should bo altered to " such period." 8, That -intending pupil toachers should undergo some period of probation. Messrs T. S. Foster, U. N. : Just, J- Watkiiio, and R«v. E. Flavell wore elected to represent the' branch at tho annual meetiug. Woodvilie, this day.
