Oimsu, September 1. The Supreme Courfcaesfiion opened today. There were five cases down for hearing. A man named Barrett pleaded guilty to the larceny of a watch and chain at Horowhenua, and wm sentenced h 18 mouth's imprisonment. George White and James Martiu were charged with burglariously entering a house at Port Sfoeraki and stealiug a number of artioles therefrom, Each tried to put the blame on the other, and both pleaded not guilty.' A verdict, of guilty was returned against'them, but sentence was deferred. Mary Worp was acquitted oh a charge of man-slaughter of her nowborn child. James Bkinnor Gordon was sentenced to three months' for forgery I and uttering. The prisoner pleaded that he was under the influence of drink at the time he committed the offence. He had already been in gaol about six months awaiting the trial. The charge of fraudulent bankruptcy against John Andrew was Jpartly heard, to-day. The accused is charged with concealing a large amouut of property from his creditors. A number of sheep cannot be found. LS44 is saidby the accuaod to have been burnt in a hut on his properly. This esse will be resumed to-morrow.
