.» . ■ The annual meeting pf the Masterton Farmers' Club was held ou Saturday. Tho President, •- Mr T, Chamberlain, occupied the chair.
Tho minutes of the precediug meeting were read and confirmed. ,•
Correspondence was read from Mr 6. Beetham, expressing hiß regret at'being unable to attend the ploughing match, and thanking the members for their kind expression to absent friends at the dinner held afterwards.
From the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Society, stating the prico of threshing in that district.. The scale ot charges'waa stated for wheat 3id per bushel, the owner of tho machine finding all hands, oats, ditto, 2|d. • If thY crops were light perhaps a little higher would bo charged. From the Timaru Society atatiiig that as all the threshing was done by* steam power the owneis of tho machine'found all hands, and the charges were, for barley and .wheat, .per bushel Bd, oats, 2Jd. ' Some discussion .took place upon, the question of getting a threshing machine, but nothing definite was decided. The annual report and balance sheet was submitted,
■ The balance sheet showed.recoipts £62 lis Id, and expenditure £49 2s (Jd, leaving a credit of £l3 8a 7d. Tho liabilities still outstanding amounted to £22 Hs6d; the assets, including credit balance, to £24 'Bs 7d, which would leave the Club, when all accounts were squared, L the sum of £ll7s Id with which to start the new year. The report and balance sheet were discussed and adopted. . . The secretary was instructed' to write to the Masterton Agricultural and Pastoral Society and ask them for a donation of £5 in consideration of the use they have had of the club room for their meetings. .
The election of officers was held over for a.fuller attendance of members, the Chairman stating that it might be desirable to amalgamate with the Mastetton Agricultural aud Pastoral Society and still continue to hold meetings on farming subjects. He thought the one subscription should do for both, Society's, as most of the members of the Farmer's Club woro members of the Pastoral Society. Mr A. Johnston thought the Society should be kept up and tho meetings held monthly. If tho Farmer's Club amalgamated with the other Society it should boon the understanding that the Pastoral Society take over the Club room and give the members tho «*o of it, Mr T. Chamberlain gave notico of motion that at the noxt meeting ho would move (to test the feeling of the members) "That the Farmers' Club amalgamate with the Masterton Agricultural and Pastoral Society." ' Messrs S. Mawlcy and R. Cade were, elected members. Mr A. Selby was proposed for membership, ballot to U taken at the next meeting. The meetinp then adjourned for a month. ■'•.■•■
