TARATAHI-CARTERTON ROAD BOARD.
Thi usual monthly meeting of the Board' was hold on Saturday. • Present—Measrß B. Boys (Chairman), Booth, Dorset, Parker, Rayner, Stevens, Bunny, and Braithwaite. Correßpondence.—From Messrs Johnson and Thompson, asking for some repairs to the road leading to their' property. The request was allowed to stand over till the weather cleared up. From Mr Butler, in reference to fencing the road, ealliNg the Board's attention to the falling trees. Also from F. Conway, asking for. employment, eithsr at atone-breaking or any other work. Messrs Eaton and Wilkersou waited on the Board in reference to opening a road at Kokotau. The same mate was before the Board previously, and their solicitor's opinion was to the effect that the Board had no legal right through native land,, and the. present lessee objected to the road being openod unless the Board fenced it. ..'The Warden offered £lO towards the 1 fericmj?, provided the deputation- would undertake to do the job fpr that amount. After Borne consultation'; the deputation agroedtoacceptthe-money upon those terms. j Tenders were received for th» bridge on Swamp Rood, that of Mr G, Waterion being accepted at £25, U., Con-
'ftldSen's tender for cutting drain on the "a&the road at, £1 15b .per was. accepted; : ' ■■'• ':.•.;.',' Mr Rayner was authorised to employ a man,to rake in the. ruts and break 'the stones on Hughes' Line, and the Chair- ■ man was authorised to employ 'Mr Conway at stonebreaking in hia Ward, Mr Booth gave nutioe to move at the next meetimr, That this Board avail, themselves of tho privilege of borrowing under the local Bodies Borrowing Powers Act 1886. Sundry accounts were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned. '
