NEW BUILDING.
From the plans and specifications w« cull the following particulars of an addition to our business places in Mastortoiir which is proposed to-be erected in Queen street, near Messrs' M. Caselberg and Co.'b store, tenders for which are invited by Mr W. CChatfieldj architect of Weilington. The elevation Bhowi a handsome two storied building with a frontage of forty-three feet six inches, and a height of forty feet in the centre, from which a flag-atatf risoi to the height of ten feet. On tho ground'floor there are three square windows, 5 x 10, including tho top lights. There are two entrance* with doiiblo sliding doors, the main ontranoe having a porch with four Iron ornamental pillars, supporting a balcony surmounted with an Iron railing on the front arid sides, undbr the cornice, and finished off with iron scrollwork brackets, The fanliyhts over the doors correspond with the window toplighto, giving tho lQwor part of tho building an uniform appeamnceinthisrespect. Botwcenthetwo stories a heavy, bold cornice extends the length of the building being returnud at each.end. The first floor has five circular headed windows, the centra of each being finished with keystone, .-• Massive looking pilasters finish off each end of the building from base to parapet, handsome finials decorating each corner of the parapet. From each side of the centre window pilasters rise to the top cornice, where from ornamented circular heads rise fluted pilasters to about'three feet above the, parapet,-supporting the pediment, within the panel of whioh, the monogram W.D.d ib to ba worked in. The ground plan shows a building 43ft Gin by 64ft 6in (including a.ten feet proposed addition). The whole of this, with the exception of a workroom 14ft by 10ft' Tin, is to be used as shop and showroom, the late haying a ton feet opening to theshop, of which it forms a part. '.. The staircase entranco is an opening of thirteen feet, at the foot of which, and in the centre of the building is au office, which accomodates all sides of the shop, The usual counters, shelving arid fixtures have been provided for, and are both numerous and conveniently situated, The first floor contains a itasaage running parallel with the front, loading to & large room 23ft Bin by 20ft facing the street. Another room facing the street iB also reached from tho passage. Iron columns about five inches in diameter, of finch metal, set in a. brickwork foundation, supports the first floor. - The necessary light for the shop will be .supplied from a skylight extending the 'whole length of the roof, above which three of' Boyle's patent ventilators will be fixed. The building is to be of heart of totara, and, the front excepted, the whole of ihooutaida will bo covered with iron. The windows are to be fitted with revolving shutters, The building has a decidedly mercantile aspect about it, and will, when finished, add considerably to the general 1 appearance of that part of Queen Streot, which is taking a lead in architectural development in tho Boroutrh,
